Home. What does that word mean to you? Websters defines it as following:
1 a: one's place of residence
b: house
2 a: the social unit formed by a family living together
3 a: a familiar or usual setting : congenial environment; also: the
focus of one's domestic attention {home is where the heart is}
b: habitat
4 a: a place of origin; also: one's own country
b: headquarters
When I think of the word home, I think of sanctuary, a place of rest, comfort, peace, a soft place to fall, refuge.
This is where my love of home decor comes in. Many people may think home decor is frivolous, unnecessary or even silly. It is definitely a luxury. It is not something we need at all. But, if it's something your can afford, it is definitely worth it for your family.
We move around a LOT. Our house changes very frequently. In fact, we have lived in 7 homes in our ten years of marriage. With so much moving around, familiarity and comfort are important to us. Now that we are living in Europe, it is even more so. German homes are frequently sterile and can be a bit stale. We now live on post. Military homes are always sterile and always stale. *wink*
Along the way, I've picked up some great tips and ideas to make a temporary house a HOME. There are some things we always incorporate into our homes. I'd like to share these with you in a new series of posts. I hope to post these once a week and I'd love to have you join me!!
